<p><em><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></em></p> <p><em>Addressing term variations reflects the heterogeneity of the speech community. Variations in addressing terms can undergo changes and shifts. This study aims to describe the forms, factors, and functions of addressing terms with a gender perspective in the promotional content of skincare products on TikTok. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach and corpus linguistics. The data in this study are the speech of skin care product sellers sourced from Kahf and Scarlett Whitening's TikTok accounts within the past year. Specifically, the data for male speakers' speech sourced from Kahf's TikTok account amounted to 168 video content and female speakers' speech data from Scarlett's TikTok account amounted to 226 video content. The data was processed using AntConc 4.2.4 software. There are three main findings in this study. First, this study shows that men and women use pronouns more. The difference is that men tend to use gender-based variations of addressing terms, such as “bro”. Meanwhile, women tend to use unisex addressing terms, such as “guys”. Second, the variation of addressing terms is influenced by various factors, such as: (1) the type of skin care product, (2) limited identification of speech partners, and (3) efforts to politeness and build familiarity. <p>Perkembangan media sosial telah menciptakan ruang baru bagi fenomena kebahasaan, khususnya alih kode dan campur kode pada penutur bilingual. Permasalahan penelitian ini adalah bagaimana fenomena alih kode dan campur kode termanifestasi dalam konteks komunikasi digital lintas budaya Indonesia-Arab. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk alih kode dan campur kode dalam akun Instagram @affarmakarim_ dan mendeskripsikan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi terjadinya fenomena tersebut. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik simak catat untuk mengumpulkan data percakapan dalam video reels periode Juni 2023-Mei 2024. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan metode agih untuk mengklasifikasikan bentuk-bentuk alih kode dan campur kode, serta metode padan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor penyebabnya berdasarkan konteks sosial dan situasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dominasi alih kode ke luar (external code switching) antara bahasa Indonesia-Arab, serta campur kode ke luar (outer code mixing) dan ke dalam (inner code mixing). Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi meliputi lawan tutur, kehadiran orang ketiga, perubahan topik pembicaraan, penutur, dan peralihan situasi formal-informal. <p> </p> <p>This study aims to find out the challenges faced by students when they practice English-Indonesian sight Translation. In addition to the challenges, this study also explains the students’ strategies to pass the challenges. To find the same or similar answers and different answers related to this research, this study interviewed the students as the respondents so that this study categorized respondents into three categories in terms of grade. There are 2 high-achiever students, 2 middle-achiever students, and 2 low-achiever students who will be interviewed concerning their tips and approaches. The scores were obtained from the lecturer who taught the Simultaneous Interpreting course at the English Literature department of the State Islamic University in Bandung, in the 2024 academic year. The study found that there are three dominant challenges mentioned by the respondents and two dominant strategies mentioned. Many of them seemed to have difficulties in practicing English-Indonesian Sight Translation, such as lack of vocabulary knowledge, being rushed due to time limits, and unfamiliar types of documents. It is assumed that the strategies they used to minimize the mistake when they practice were the guess word meaning method, stay focused, and keep interpret the document, so that the students can minimize the mistake shown in front of the audience. The challenges faced and the strategies used by high achiever students are different from middle achiever and lowest achiever students. <p>Latar dalam karya sastra memiliki peran penting dalam membangun suasana, menghidupkan tokoh, serta merefleksikan kondisi sosial dan budaya yang melatarbelakangi cerita. Dalam penelitian ini, dalam novel Perempuan di Titik Nol karya Nawal El-Saadawi dan <em>The Baghdad Clock</em> karya Shahad Al-Rawi merupakan karya yang mengangkat konteks sosial dan sejarah yang berbeda, namun sama-sama kuat dalam menghadirkan latarnya. Penelitian ini kemudian bertujuan untuk membandingkan latar dalam kedua novel tersebut dengan pendekatan sastra bandingan yang berfokus pada latar tempat, latar waktu, dan latar sosial. Pada penelitian ini digunakan pendekatan analitis deskriptif dengan metode kualitatif menguraikan hasil analisis yang diperoleh dari kutipan data berupa narasi maupun dialog. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua novel menggunakan latar untuk memperkuat tema perjuangan perempuan di tengah penindasan struktural dan sosial, meskipun dalam konteks yang berbeda. Latar dalam Perempuan di Titik Nol menggambarkan kekerasan sistemik terhadap perempuan dalam struktur patriarki Mesir, sementara latar dalam <em>The Baghdad Clock</em> merefleksikan trauma kolektif akibat perang di Irak. <p>Penelitian ini menganalisis pidato Presiden RI ke-7 Joko Widodo pada peringatan Hari Kemerdekaan ke-79 menggunakan analisis wacana kritis model Fairclough. Penelitian ini mengisi gap berupa kurangnya kajian yang membahas bagaimana pidato kenegaraan membentuk legitimasi politik dan narasi keberlanjutan di tengah transisi kekuasaan. Metode yang digunakan mencakup tiga dimensi analisis: (1) analisis teks yang menelaah diksi, repetisi, dan struktur retoris; (2) praktik wacana yang mengeksplorasi proses produksi pidato oleh tim komunikasi presiden dan distribusinya di media; dan (3) praktik sosiokultural yang menempatkan pidato dalam konteks politik transisi. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pidato menggunakan diksi inklusif ("kita", "bersama") dan repetisi untuk memperkuat citra keberhasilan pemerintah dan kesinambungan kebijakan. <p>This study aims to analyze the types of presupposition and presupposition triggers in The United States Presidential Debate 2024. It focuses on identifying the types of presuppositions and the presupposition triggers used by the candidates during the debate. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected from official debate transcripts and analyzed based on theories by Yule (1996) and Levinson (1983). The results show that existential, factive, lexical, and structural presuppositions frequently appear in the candidates’ utterances. These are primarily triggered by definite descriptions, factive verbs, change-of-state verbs, and interrogative structures. The findings indicate that candidates strategically employ presuppositions to present opinions as established facts, frame narratives persuasively, and subtly influence public perception. <p><em>The many rules for writing Balinese script make students confused in learning Balinese script. The problem of reading Balinese script is not only at the word level but also at the sub-lexical level in the structure of the Consonant Vowel (CV) script block. This research aims to determine students' mapping results in mapping basic vocabulary phoneme graphemes to Consonant Vowel (CV) block symbols. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method using the basic theory of the Abugida writing system, namely the Balinese script block, where the procedure for dividing segmental space in Balinese script writing is not the same as the procedure for dividing segmental space in Latin writing where the segmentation of Balinese script writing is not divided based on linear space alone, but each segmental space must be subsegmented separately. The subjects studied were 20 students in grades 4, 5 and 6, while the objects studied were the mapping of grapheme phonemes in consonant vowel (CV) block symbols. The results of this research are the mapping of phoneme graphemes in consonant vowel (CV) block symbols and the factors that cause differences in students' mapping in mapping phoneme graphemes in consonant vowel (CV) block symbols. Based on the research that has been carried out, the results of student mapping in the Balinese script blocks should be < </em><em>ᬘᬸ</em><em>>/cu/, <</em><em>ᬲᬶ</em><em>>/si/, < </em><em>ᬍ</em><em> > /le/, and < </em><em>ᬓᬸ</em><em> >/ku/ but are mapped by students to <</em><em>ᬲᬸ</em><em>>/su/, <</em><em>ᬘᬶ</em><em>>/ci/, <</em><em>ᬗᬸ</em><em>>/ngu/ and <</em><em>ᬦᬸ</em><em>>/nu. The factor that causes inappropriate grapheme phoneme mapping by students is due to the similar shape of the graphemes. <p style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 14.2pt;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 11.0pt;">This study examines language registers in Safiya Nygaard's YouTube channel from a sociolinguistic perspective, analyzing how she varies her communication style across different social contexts and audiences. As a digital content creator known for beauty and fashion videos, Safiya Nygaard attracts a diverse audience, making her channel an ideal platform for examining digital language variation. The study aims to (1) describe the types of registers used in her videos and (2) identify their functions. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, it analyzes selected video transcripts using content analysis. The language is classified according to Martin Joos' five register types and Jakobson's six language functions. The findings indicate that the casual register is the most prevalent (60%; 18 out of 30), suggesting a predominantly informal style in her content, followed by the consultative register (40%; 12 out of 30). In terms of language functions, most utterances (83.3%; 25 out of 30) serve a referential function, emphasizing information, while 13.3% (4 out of 30) are emotive, reflecting personal expression, and 3.3% (1 out of 30) are conative, indicating minimal persuasive intent. <p>This research investigates figurative language in song lyrics, specifically focusing on One Direction's ‘Four’ album, to uncover deeper meanings and evoke emotional responses. Using a qualitative method, the research collected and analyzed data based on Johnson and Arp’s classification of figurative language, which consists of twelve types. The data were collected through careful listening and textual analysis of the album’s official lyrics, with findings cross-verified using multiple sources..The findings reveal a total of 66 instances of figurative language in the album, distributed as follows: irony (7 instances, 10.6%), personification (6 instances, 9.1%), symbol (17 instances, 25.75%), metaphor (23 instances, 34.84%), and hyperbole (13 instances, 19.7%). The results indicate that metaphor is the most frequently used type of figurative language in the album. This study highlights the role of popular music as a creative medium for literary expression and provides insight into how figurative language can enhance listener engagement. This study was aimed at analyzing the moral principles offered in the movie “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. Using a descriptive qualitative technique, it seeks to identify and explain the many forms of moral ideals in the series' first two episodes. This study apllied Linda and Eyre's (1993) moral value theory. The movie series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is the focus of this study, with moral ideals as the objects of investigation. The result of this study shows that this movie presents two kinds of values; values of being and values of giving. The moral of giving includes love and affection, respect, kindness, and friendliness. Meanwhile, the moral of being includes self-confidence, courage, self-discipline, and honesty.The characters most prominently express love and affection. <p>This qualitative study aimed to find variations in language politeness in interactions between special tour guides and tourists in Sade Village, Lombok, using a sociopragmatic approach. Sade Village is a cultural tourism destination that maintains the traditions of the Sasak tribe, where tour guides communicate with tourists using various languages such as Indonesian and foreign languages such as English. In these interactions, tour guides applied language politeness strategies to maintain communication harmony and adapt to the diverse backgrounds of tourists. This study used an observation method with data collection techniques in the form of listening, taking notes, recording and in-depth interviews with tour guides in Sade Village. Data were analyzed by using the pragmatic matching method based on Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory and a sociopragmatic approach to identify language politeness strategies used in interactions that occur in Sade Tourism Village. Data in the form of dialogues determined based on the context of the speech situation. The results of the study indicated that tour guides used various positive and negative politeness strategies according to the social and cultural context of tourists with the aim of establishing harmonious interactions and as part of hospitality in the tourism sector. These findings contribute to tourism awareness groups in understanding how language politeness plays a role in cross-cultural communication in the tourism sector. <p>The research aims to classify types of taboo language and examine its media functions relevant to the "Freak Off" party planned by P Diddy on the Law&Crime Network YouTube. This study involves qualitative descriptive research. Emphasizing the qualitative descriptive technique is essential since it really focuses on investigating and comprehending the taboo language in relation to the social and cultural background of that taboo term. Video documentation on news coverage on the Law&Crime Network YouTube channel constitutes the data source. This study is based on Jay (2009) and Wardhaugh's (2010) theory. That information is phrases or utterances including prohibited terms. Data collecting methods are documentary study by recording video transcripts. Data analyses made use of the Miles and Huberman framework, which included data display, data reduction, and conclusion formulation. General data gathering techniques were theoretical and source triangulation data validation. Research on taboo words reveals that 3% of them are sexual taboos, namely Freak Off, Commercial Sex, and Masturbation. While legal and crime accounted for 6 percent, reference blackmail, narcotics, ketamine, and extortion; it also included violent forbidden terms, 3 percent drag, kick, and gun occurrences. Furthermore, taboo words serve purposes like attention-getting, theatrical, emotionally charged, and rule-breaking. The results showed that the law and criminal category (6%) was the most prevalent kind of taboo words, followed by violence taboo (3%) and sexual taboo (3%): blackmail, narcotics, masturbation and Kicked. In this particular setting, taboo language serves the following purposes: 1 - attract audience attention; 2 - express emotional intensities; 3 - emphasize legal and moral infractions; 4 - enhance rhetorical pr. <p><em>Abstract </em></p> <p><em>This research aims to develop educational game-based evaluation media, especially in local content subjects in Balinese wianjana script material. This research uses the Research and development (R&D) method. The development steps carried out are (1) data collection, (2) planning, (3) making educational game-based assessments, (4) trials, (5) revision 1, (6) expert validation, (7) revision 2, and (8) final products. The subjects in this study are grade VI students of SD Katolik Karya Singaraja with a total of 28 students.</em> <em>The object of this research is local content material in Balinese script. The data collection methods in this study are interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The questionnaire in this study contains validation sheets for media experts and assessment experts, as well as a questionnaire for student opinions. <table width="562"> <tbody> <tr> <td width="393"> <p>This research aims to analyze the use of illocutionary acts in the 2024 U.S. presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, focusing on how the candidates employ language strategically to influence public perception. Grounded in Searle’s (1979) speech act theory, which builds upon the foundational work of Austin (1962), the study investigates five categories of illocutionary acts: assertive, commissive, declarative, expressive, and directive. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from the official transcript of the debate and analyzed through categorization and contextual interpretation (Yule, 1996; Thomas, 1995). The results reveal that assertive acts dominate the discourse, reflecting the candidates' efforts to build credibility and assert policy achievements or critiques. Commissive acts were used to make promises and show future commitments, while directive acts served to challenge opponents. Expressive and declarative acts helped shape emotional connections and formal policy stances. These findings demonstrate how each candidate constructs political narratives through language use, reinforcing Mey’s (2001) view that pragmatics involves understanding meaning within sociopolitical interaction. The study offers insights into the persuasive power of language in political communication and contributes to the broader field of pragmatic analysis. <p>Memahami konteks penggunaan deiksis menjadi salah satu elemen yang dapat membangun kedekatan pembaca dan tokoh serta mengungkapkan makna yang sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan deiksis dalam cerpen “Māta Ahlī” karya Khalil Gibran dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Fokus dalam penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk deiksis dalam membangun narasi dan pesan moral. Data diambil dari cerpen ini dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data primer dalam penelitian ini adalah cerpen karya Khalil Gibran. Adapun sumber data sekunder adalah kajian literatur yang relevan dengan penelitian penulis. Teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik membaca dan mencatat. Penulis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman dalam analisis data untuk menemukan dan mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk deiksis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 3 bentuk deiksis, yaitu deiksis persona, deiksis waktu, dan deiksis ruang. Dari cerpen “Māta Ahlī” ditemukan 79 data deiksis persona, 31 data deiksis ruang, dan 5 data deiksis waktu. Deiksis dalam cerpen ini berfungsi sebagai alat penting untuk memperkuat pesan moral tentang solidaritas, pengorbanan, dan empati dalam menghadapi penderitaan. Analisis deiksis dapat menjadi pendekatan yang signifikan dalam mengungkap makna yang tersembunyi dan emosi tokoh dalam karya sastra. <p><em>This study aims to describe the evaluation and feasibility of developing Canva-based instructional videos for teaching drama scriptwriting. The research adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach, following the ADDIE model. The primary data collection instrument used in this study is a questionnaire distributed to media expert validators, material expert validators, Indonesian language teachers, and ninth-grade students. The results of the development process indicate that the Canva-based instructional video was rated as "highly feasible" by media expert validators, with a score of 82%, and by material expert validators, with a score of 90%. Additionally, the instructional video was rated as "highly practical" by Indonesian language teachers, achieving a score of 92%. During the testing phase, the video received a score of 89% in the small-group trial and 90% in the large-group trial. <p><em>This study aims to analyze the representation of character education in the short story collection "Lebaran di Karet, di Karet..." by Umar Kayam. The research is motivated by the importance of strengthening contextual and meaningful character education for social life. This study utilizes a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. The type of data examined is textual data in the form of narratives and dialogues that illustrate character education practices in five short stories. The five titles of the short stories analyzed include "Ke Solo, Ke Njati," "Menjelang Lebaran," "Lebaran Ini, Saya Harus Pulang," "Mbok Jah," and "Lebaran di Karet, di Karet." Data collection techniques were conducted through intensive reading and noting relevant quotes based on Thomas Lickona's theory of character education. Data analysis was carried out through stages of data reduction, categorization of character values, context interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was strengthened through theory triangulation and in-depth re-reading. The results of the study show that all five short stories contain seven important aspects of character education: honesty, compassion, courage, affection, self-control, cooperation, and hard work. These aspects are illustrated through the character learning processes as they respond to social and personal conflict dynamics. <p><em>This study aims to find and describe the form of the main character's inner conflict and the factors causing the emergence of inner conflict in the novel Algrafi by Dwi Berliana. This study uses Sigmund Freud's literary psychology approach as a scalpel. The type of research used is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The data in this study are in the form of words, sentences, expressions or paragraphs that contain the main character's inner conflict. The data source is the novel Algrafi by Dwi Berliana published in 2022. The data collection technique used in this study uses a literature study technique, namely reading the entire contents of the novel and marking words, sentences or paragraphs that contain elements of the inner conflict of the character Algra in the novel Algrafi by Dwi Berliana and a note-taking technique to record data in the form of dialogues containing the inner conflict of the character Algra in the novel Algrafi by Dwi Berliana. The data analysis technique uses content analysis or document analysis techniques. The results of this study found forms of inner conflict in the form of shame, fear, depression, disappointment, anger, heartbreak, anxiety, regret, and heartache, while the factors causing the emergence of inner conflict in the form of anxiety and depression. <p>Penelitian ini mengkaji fenomena makian positif dalam bahasa Coel sebagai strategi komunikasi afektif yang berfungsi menjaga harmoni sosial. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui teknik sadap, libat dan cakap dengan penutur asli di Lubuklinggau. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa: (1) makian positif termanifestasi melalui empat kategori referen utama (agama, etnis, penyakit, dan hewan) yang mengalami pelemahan makna denotatif, (2) fungsi sosial utama meliputi penanda solidaritas (in-group marker), ekspresi keakraban, dan penguat kohesi sosial, (3) konteks penggunaan dominan terjadi dalam interaksi ritual antar remaja dengan ciri prosodi khas (intonasi tinggi + senyuman). <p>This study analyzes the politeness strategies employed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi during her speeches at the 78th United Nations General Debate. The research employs a qualitative method for data collection, utilizing speech transcripts as primary data sources. Data analysis is conducted through thematic analysis, identifying and categorizing the politeness strategies based on Brown and Levinson's politeness theory. To ensure data validity, triangulation is applied by cross-referencing the findings with expert opinions in the field of diplomatic communication. The research identifies four primary strategies: Positive Politeness, Bald-On Record, Negative Politeness, and Off-Record. Each strategy serves distinct contexts and purposes, reflecting the minister's diplomatic approach. The findings reveal that Retno Marsudi effectively utilizes these strategies to convey significant messages while considering factors such as social distance, ranking of imposition, and power dynamics in international relations. Notably, the study highlights the predominant use of Positive Politeness Strategy, which fosters solidarity and cooperation among nations. <p><em>This study aims to describe non-conventional implicatures in film conversations. The theory applied to analyze this study is Grice's implicature theory (1975). This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques are carried out by identifying conversational implicatures between characters that appear in the film's dialogue. The data collection process involves several steps, namely watching, listening, recording, classifying, analyzing, and concluding the findings. The results of the analysis show that the maxim of quantity is found in seven cases, which indicates the importance of seriousness and honesty in interpersonal communication. The maxim of quality appears in six cases, which reflects the importance of honesty and truth in communication. Meanwhile, the maxim of relevance is also found in six cases, which indicates the importance of topic suitability in communication, so that the information conveyed remains relevant to the context of the conversation. Finally, the maxim of manner is found in seven cases, indicating that the characters in the film try to convey messages in an effective and polite way, so that communication can run well. <p><em>Tuhan, Tolong Bunuh Emak</em> (TTBE) ialah naskah juara sayembara naskah teater Dewan Kesenian Jakarta tahun 2022. TTBE mengetengahkan beban masyarakat urban. Tujuan penelitian ialah merepresentasikan persoalan ekonomi, pendidikan, dan kesehatan dalam narasi TTBE. Penelitian berbentuk kualitatif dengan pendekatan naratif. Data-data berupa dialog tokoh dianalisis dengan persfektif Wacana Kritis Norman Fairclough. Validitas data dilakukan secara triangulasi antarpeneliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa keluarga kelas pekerja di wilayah urban tidak dapat memenuhi kebutuhan hidup, tidak mendapat dukungan pendidikan, dan terabaikan dalam akses kesehatan. Naskah TTBE memproduksi wacana kritis atas ketimpangan ekonomi, kesenjangan pendidikan, dan minimnya akses pelayanan kesehatan bagi masyarakat urban. <p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi bermodel berbasis masalah terhadap keterampilan menulis teks biografi pada siswa SMAS GKPI Padang Bulan Tahun Ajaran 2024/2025. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen, menggunakan desain <em>two-group posttest-only control design</em>. Populasi penelitian terdiri atas 78 siswa, dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 52 siswa yang diperoleh melalui teknik <em>cluster sampling</em>. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum perlakuan hanya 1 siswa yang mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM), sedangkan setelah penerapan model pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis masalah, jumlah siswa yang mencapai KKM meningkat menjadi 17 orang. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan nilai thitung > ttabel, yaitu 7,6111 > 2,000, sehingga H₀ ditolak dan Hₐ diterima. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran berdiferensiasi bermodel berbasis masalah secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks biografi siswa.
