Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze and describe the figurative language used in Troye Sivan song lyrics in the Blue Neighbourhood’s album, with the research and writing of this thesis the author hopes that readers and music listener more understand about the figurative language used in the song lyrics so that they can understand the meaning of the lyrics comprehensively. In this research, writer use descriptive analysis method, and library research as the technique. After doing the research, the writer conclude that there are 10 types of figurative language out of 12 types of language styles proposed by Arp and Johnson in his book Sound and Sense: An Introduction to Poetry. The most dominant of figurative language usedin Blue Neighbourhood’s album is paradox with a total of 7 data (20%) and the least is simile and metonimia with 1 data for each (2.8%). The use of figurative language aims to give deep meaning and give poetic effects on the lyrics sung by Troye Sivan.
